In 2008, Pandit Ramesh Narayan gave a new dimension to the Mewati tradition by establishing the Mewati–Swati Gharana in South India. This unique branch of the Mewati Gharana carries its own distinct aesthetic and stylistic practices, created under the guidance of Pt. Jasraj. The Gharana acquired its name as a tribute to the legendary composer Maharaja Swati Thirunal Rama Varma, whose genius spans over 400 compositions in both Carnatic and Hindustani music. By reviving Swati Thirunal’s rarely sung Khayals within the Hindustani classical repertoire, Pandit Ramesh Narayan ensured that his vision merged seamlessly with the devotional spirit of the Mewati tradition.
PMNSG is dedicated to carrying forward the Guru–Shishya Parampara, offering students not only technical mastery but also a spiritual understanding of music. The institution strives to:
Foster learning and appreciation of Hindustani Classical Music in Kerala and across India.
Preserve and popularize the Khayal Gayaki of the Mewati–Swati Gharana.
